MSQRD Face Swap Live and Snapchat are just a few of the apps that fuel the latest social craze. Yahoo also invented one back in 2023.
2023 will be remembered as the year that we ignored the warnings about artificial intelligence overthrowing mankind one by one.
Perhaps. Although face-swapping apps don’t exist – many have lived since 2023.
Although the craze will fade, five apps allow you to attempt face-swapping.
ASKED
While app crazes can come and go, tech startups that avoid vowels will not die. MSQRD (i.e., Masquerade made news this month after Facebook purchased it in less than three months. The app is still available for iOS and Android.
MSQRD is marketed as a “video selfies” application that allows you to record short clips of your digitally edited facial features. You can add virtual accessories, and celebrity face masks and even swap faces with friends. You can quickly share to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter by switching between the effects.

Face Swap Live
Face Swap Live might not have been bought by a tech giant, but its feat of ingenuity has garnered plenty of attention.
We live in exciting times! Face Swap Live is currently only available for iOS. Still, its developer is encouraging Android users to sign-up to be notified when Face Swap Live becomes available on Google-powered phones.
Face Swap Live is a live face swap with friends or body parts. However, Face Swap Live can also work with photos, including photos of celebrities taken online. Star is driving the face-swap craze: mapping your face to Donald Trump’s famous hairline is the new political parody. Possibly.
Snapchat
Snapchat is one of the most popular platforms for face-swapping. It has over 100 million users daily. In February 2016, Snapchat added face-swapping as a “lens” to the app, likely using technology acquired from startup Looksery the previous year.
The face-swapping function works in the same way as other lenses. Take a selfie and then press and hold on to your face. Next, swipe along a list of special effects. The horror is amazing! Snapchat users don’t have to use it, but it is a great reason to continue snapping.

Face Swap Booth
Although it may have a different media buzz than Face Swap Live and MSQRD and the video aspect, it is a great free app for mixing and matching faces from photos.
The user interface is simple and easy to use. It also offers powerful editing options, such as saving faces to be used in other photos or a preloaded database of celebrity photos. This interface is well worth a look for static face-swapping.
Face Stealer
This is to remind you that Yahoo has been one of the most innovative companies in mobile over the past few years, even though it has yet to have the best luck capitalizing on its inventiveness. Yahoo’s Japanese division launched this photo-swapping app for face swapping in February 2023. However, three years later, other startups seized its thunder.
This app is more about “stealing” faces from other people than trading with them. It may sound a bit like a horror movie. Although the app is entertaining, it has fewer subjects and less scale.
