About Us

Primer Business is a company that helps entrepreneurs and managers create shared value through business model innovation. Shared value is the idea that by addressing society’s needs and challenges, companies can create economic value in a way that also benefits society. It’s a concept closely linked to sustainability.

We believe that shared value requires a deeper, more transformative change than traditional corporate social responsibility or philanthropy. To truly unlock the private sector’s potential to create social and environmental value at a profit, new business models are needed.

That’s why we offer two frameworks to guide decision-makers through business model innovation for shared value: the Hourglass Model and the Shared Value Scorecard. These frameworks are based on extensive research and practice, including more than 180 articles, conducted by Florian Lüdeke-Freund, Lorenzo Massa, Nancy Bocken, Alan Brent, and Josephine Musango.

The Hourglass Model helps entrepreneurs and managers understand their current situation and identify opportunities for shared value creation. It consists of six steps: define the problem, analyze the context, explore the potential, design the solution, implement the change, and evaluate the impact.

The Shared Value Scorecard helps entrepreneurs and managers measure and manage their shared value performance. It consists of four dimensions: strategic alignment, stakeholder engagement, value proposition, and value capture.

We provide consulting services, training programs, and online tools to help our clients apply these frameworks to their own businesses. We also collaborate with academic institutions, industry associations, and policy makers to promote and disseminate the concept of business models for shared value.
